“When you invite people to think, you are inviting revolution." -Ivana Gabara

So, you wrote a book. Congratulations! If you’re interested in taking the next step to turn your manuscript into a professionally produced audiobook, you’re in the right place. Here's an overview of how Red Planet Audiobooks works.

We accept submissions from independent authors or publishing houses who own all rights to their work.

To submit a title for consideration, you’ll need to provide either:

1. a printed hard copy of your work

OR

2. an electronic copy of your work in .txt, .doc, .odt or .pdf format.

THEN WHAT HAPPENS?

Within 15 days, we’ll review your manuscript and contact you regarding acceptance of your work. Once accepted, you’ll be assigned a producer who will be your point of contact throughout the production process. Your producer will answer any questions you may have, keep you updated about your audiobook's progress every step of the way, and ensure that your finished audiobook is of the highest possible quality.

The audiobook production process takes about 4 to 6 weeks. Your producer will act as your advisor for a lot of important decisions, including cover design choices, narrator selection, and other pertinent design and packaging choices. Your producer will work hard to take the stress and uncertainty out of the production process– we keep track of all the details!

Once your audiobook is produced, quality-checked by your producer, and approved by you, it will be available for sale via major online retailers, through our own online sales website, and available for order or purchase at virtually any brick-and-mortar bookstore. In addition, your readers will be able to download digital copies of your audiobook through major online retailers and our e-commerce site. Your audiobook will be produced to professional standards, will have an associated ISBN, and will appear in the “Books In Print” database.

It’s really that simple!

WHAT ABOUT COSTS AND COPYRIGHTS?

At Red Planet Audiobooks, we’re revolutionizing the way audiobooks are produced and sold, putting professional results within the reach of select self-published authors and small presses. We think the old publishing models are, frankly, insane. If your book isn't filed under "Seller, Best," you're unlikely to get anything approaching a fair deal or any real support from a giant, multi-national, publishing conglomerate. We think there's great content out there, content overlooked by the TransNationalGlobalHumongoidPublishing, Incorporateds of the world, and we want to find it!

We keep initial production costs reasonable and utilize a “P.O.D.” model. This means that, rather than producing and warehousing huge inventories of compact discs and shipping huge quantities from warehouse to warehouse, we manufacture your audiobooks as they are ordered, completely eliminating the need for large upfront costs.

A production fee that covers the recording, mastering, and distribution of your manuscript will vary depending on the length of your project. A detailed production fee chart can be found RIGHT HERE. Prices start as low as $899. Industry-standard fees for this same type of project would run you literally thousands of dollars more just for setup!

The production fee is all you’ll owe us. Period. We don’t tack on hidden fees, up-sell essential “add on” services, or pressure you into anything. We produce a quality product at a reasonable cost.

WHERE WILL MY AUDIOBOOK BE AVAILABLE?

Your audio book will be available on major online retailers such as Amazon.com, as well as on our own online bookstore, worldwideaudiobooks.com. It will be available for order in practically every book store in the world. It will be available for download in digital format from major online retailers such as audible.com, worldwideaudiobooks.com, and via iTunes.

You'll need to market your audiobook, just as you would if TransNationalGlobalHumongoidPublishing, Inc., published it. We'll facilitate that in any way we can. We'll make it as easy as possible for your readers to buy your audiobook, but the marketing is up to you. The big difference, of course, is that when your audiobook is sold, you'll garner a much larger royalty rate than you would with a dinosaur publisher.

WHAT SORT OF ROYALTIES CAN I EXPECT?

We pay you quarterly royalties on every copy of your audio book that is sold. They’re very generous– regularly as much as 30%, and sometimes even higher! You can find a detailed explanation of how retail prices are structured and how royalties work HERE.
